  1. Ding dong! The doorbell goes, so you head to the front door to find out who’s there.

You hope it’s not a window salesperson – and that if it is, you can again point out that you don’t buy from the door.

You open the door, and there’s a parcel guy with a package that you weren’t expecting.

    “Ooh, wow! Thanks!”

Getting something in the post, even when you’ve ordered it yourself, is exciting. But when you get a gift you weren’t expecting it can be really very exciting and intriguing.

You can give this fuzzy feeling to your clients and prospects… you can give this gift… and you can brand it too!

Sending stuff in the post is so much more engaging than a poke on Facebook (remember those days?) or a random connection request on LinkedIn.

This type of post is an area of marketing that most have forgotten about. In this world of ‘online everywhere’we’re adamant that the door mat, the postal services, and those surprise packages are where sensible marketing should be right now.

Of course we would; we’re in print, right?

But think about the device you’re reading this on right now. It’s not exactly easy to stand out on here, is it?

Now think about the large volume of email you get… versus the amount of direct mail you get.

You understand what we mean, don’t you?

It’s time to go back to basics and give what digital never really managed to replicate – that fresh, special parcel feeling!

Here are our top five favourite things to send in the post:

    1. Chocolate!

Chocolate is such a great gift and something that no matter who you are, you’ll love receiving. Even if you don’t eat chocolate yourself, you’ll be able to gift it to someone who will.

We like to send our chocolate to our prospects and of course our clients too. We go one step further than a boring box of Roses though…

    Branded chocs!

From Kit Kats to Terry’s Chocolate Oranges, we can brand up the packaging or the packet that they come in and give a really long-lasting impact.

Chocolate excites every time and our personalised chocs are a great way to get noticed.

  2. 2. Pillow boxes!

Pillow boxes are just like our branded chocolates, but with more options. Pillow boxes are really versatile, and you can put all sorts of lovely things into them. Brand them up, put a funky little message on the outside, and then fill them with chocolates, sweets, or little treats that slide out onto the desk when opened.

When pillow boxes are branded and personalised you can put pretty much what you like in them and still get that brand awareness in a prospect’s or client’s office.

Pillow boxes can contain a variety of contents like sweets, mints, or other gifts – and advertise your services at the same time.

    3. Fridge magnets!

Ah… the old favourite! Who doesn’t have a fridge magnet? It always amazes us how fridge manufacturers haven’t created something to replace this, but the magnet is still in the game!

The great thing about a fridge magnet in 2019 is… fewer people are sending and selling them, so it’s another chance to get a look in.

When you brand and shape and fridge magnets in the style of your business, you’ll make a real impact too.

You could maybe add an ‘on-brand’ motivational message or even a quote you feel resonates with your prospects or clients. Or you could simply add your logo and contact details and advertise your product and services every time your customer reaches into the fridge.

    4. Branded folders

We have to send things out in the post all the time, right?

    Well… actually no.

Most people send documents in the cloud or in PDFs in emails.

Want to stand out? Send them in the post as well.

Branded folders are ideal for sending out those important documents you want people to keep, or even a lovely glossy brochure with a sales letter. If you’re onboarding a new customer, you could build a very cost-effective welcome pack with all the information they need to know about working with you.

If you’re sending important documents in the post, keep them all together in a branded folder. It’s great for organising papers and getting people to keep hold of them. And they even have a handy slot for your business card so it’s easy for people to get in touch with you.

    5. Scratch cards

This works really well as you’re potentially sending them millions of pounds. The excitement of a scratch card in the post is a really powerful idea. You could send a scratch card to each new client. (You could say, “We feel lucky to have you!”) Or you could reward customers each time they order over a certain amount.

It’s a really cost-efficient, yet impactful way of jumping out of the post and onto the desk.

And if they win… they might even take you out for dinner!

Land on the doormat as well as the inbox and timeline …

Marketing comes in many shapes and forms now and it’s not enough to use just one channel. Mix it up, merge some ideas, and get some print involved.

There’s just something very special about that doorbell going and there being a surprise gift waiting for you, no matter how small. Wouldn’t you agree?
